Friends of Shrewsbury Lodge (FoSL)

The Friends of Shrewsbury Lodge (FoSL) is an organisation run by the parents. All parents automatically become members when their children join the school. A committee, including representatives from each class and a chairperson, meets once a month.
FoSL is primarily an organisation for parents to meet each other at social events, and some of the activities raise money for the school or a designated charity. There is an annual general meeting (combined with a school parents’ evening) held in the autumn term. FoSL arrange a summer fête and the children’s Christmas parties. It also usually arranges two social events specifically for our parents, such as an informal one in the spring and a party in the summer term. FoSL also organise second-hand uniform sales.
Other activities of a support nature are also undertaken by FoSL, such as class address lists which are produced and distributed early in the autumn term. A telephone ‘cascade system’ is also produced, to be used in the event, say, of the school being closed without warning, such as in extreme weather conditions. Any parent, who does not wish their details to be circulated, must inform the School Office in writing by the first week of term.
FoSL's rôle, however, is not static, but evolves to meet the changing needs of the children, the parents and the school. The Friends of Shrewsbury Lodge is not a Parent Teacher Association.
